Timing is Everything

As French Artist Husband was winging his way back to me last night, from a trip to show his paintings in Paris; defying the natural progression of time by flying East to West; getting younger by the minute, the very fabric of the Universe was rent asunder to insert an arbitrary hour. Pray tell, where has that hour been all summer?
Somehow, as the Big Fat Seamstress of the Skies grabbed the flimsy edges either side of the patch, a stitch was dropped and two suitcases, that would otherwise have arrived with him after an arduous and uncomfortable flight, in a wheelbarrow flown by Delta Airlines, on which the proffered food was "rolled up, plastic wrapped and unrecognizable", slid sideways onto another time plane and may never be seen or heard from again.

  1. Ooooooooooo my daughter worked for United some years back. She called it "the bat cave" and it had to do with tracking lost luggage. She still flies, but will only take what she can cram into a carry on.

    This isn't hopeful, sorry.

  2. I know someone who handles baggage in one of the UK's smaller airports. Some of his stories are truly hair-raising.

  3. That's what happens if you defy the natural order of things, defy gravity and think you can fly in these new-fangled machines, defy the proper sequence of time and think you can insert or take away an arbitrary hour willy-nilly; of course things go wrong.

  4. Aaaagh, I always said it was wrong - necessary, but wrong!!! It still amazes me how they get off the ground. I hope they turn up.

  5. Hi All, what's truly hair raising is the list of laptop computer, euro checks, 2 contemporary Aubusson tapestries and more that Mr. Jet-Set decided were better off in the hold. Lucky for us, that suitcase showed up at our house in the middle of the night last night. We are now only waiting for the Artist's portfolio full of original watercolors.

  6. The watercolors are probably for sale already on e-Bay... did you try looking there ?

Hopefully the other suitcase didn't fall into the eternal airborne lavatory, and get transformed into blue ice to be jettisoned at 35000 feet over the Rocky Mountains somewhere...

  7. Uh oh! I've heard stories of lost baggage. Hope the watercolors turn up as well. That would certainly make the time-space continuum a litte more stable...or would it? *sigh*

  8. Owen, I am determined to wait another 48 hours before I succumb to worry. It would be a serious waste of energy to get all worked up about something that may not turn out to be a problem. That's one of my "surviving life with an artist" rules.

  9. SEE!.. told you! this thing happens alll the time. there is a part of the universe somewhere with many forms of luggage flating abuot aimlessly. Possibly Saturns newly found ring.. is actually made up from suitcases.

  10. To all pessimists and nay-sayers: the suitcases have found their way home. I'm so glad I didn't do the worry dance prematurely. I can now cancel the human sacrifice ritual I had planned as my next step.
