A very satisfactory gift.

A winch system to put on the front of a Jeep may not be the first thing that comes to mind as a warm and fuzzy gift for Christmas but when your Lovely Daughter and Gung-Ho Son-in-law (his hamster is named Hambo!) have recently acquired a sunshine yellow Jeep Wrangler and are headed for snowy Tahoe for the holidays with friends, it is a serendipitous conversation that inspires a present that both pleases them and makes me feel that I have contributed to their safety.
Peace of mind-my gift to myself.

  1. That is a perfect gift! People so often get caught up in the idea of a gift's having to be something glamorous instead of practical. Give me practical every time. One of my all time favorites was a new wheelbarrow!!

    Merry Christmas to you and yours. May it be filled with love, joy, hope, and peace.

  2. I approve heartily! And can imagine well your improved peace of mind knowing that they can haul themselves or another out of harms' way.

  6. I got a carpenters carry-all for Christmas and couldn't be happier. A winch is an excellent gift. And . . . you get the peace of mind. A true win/win situation.

  7. Son, and knowing they really wanted this.

    Techno, I hope not, and if so, I don't want to hear what kind of trouble they were in:)

    Argent, Merry Christmas to you too.

    @eloh, I know you know.

    Pliers, perzactly!

    Jean, a winch or a wheelbarrow can be personal, if it shows you know the person and what they need.

  8. I often prefer to give an 'experience' over a thing, and to me you combined both with this gift. Perfect. Merry Christmas, English Rider.

  11. Just wanted to drop in and wish you the best of holidays... as we get slowly winched, whether we want to or not into 2010...

    Loved your story about Falmouth here which I just read, and the hillside outhouse of course. I had the good fortune to spend a week in Falmouth a couple of years ago, it was lovely, had a great time exploring around the Lizard and St Agnes, etc etc...

    Happy holidays ! Hope you got a pony for Christmas !

  12. Just a little follow up. it transpired that the winch was used on this trip, although Lovely Daughter is not sure if they got stuck accidentally or on purpose. What do we think?
