Let us ride together, Blowing mane and hair, Careless of the weather, Miles ahead of care, Ring of hoof and snaffle, Swing of waist and hip, Trotting down the twisted road With the world let slip. Anonymous riding song.
That Ridgeback next door could use a dose of Barbara. Actually, watching her train, she does do a lot of the same stuff today's "whisperers" do, you're right.
The dogs look as if they are enjoying the experience of watching their owners get trained. *LOL*
Oh heavens...South Park did an episode on Cesar Millan, the Dog Whisperer training Eric Cartman, the rather nasty child on that show and it is one of my favorites. Walkies and whisperer...gotta love it.
Happy Hour, You are very welcome. Animal Planet and National Geographic are two of my favorite TV channels. Cesar has a charisma that is worth watching, even if you don't care about dogs.
Oh! I remember that program when it came back on syndication. I'm not too sure if I agree with all her methods, since every dog has their own particular temperament. Like with children, one method doesn't 'fit all.' But, I did enjoy her bossing about the dog owners and the dogs seemed to mostly happily follow along.
hahahahahahaa!!!..Perfect laugh to wake up to this morning! I remember watching her when I was a kid. Fantastic!.. you just wouldn't get a character like her on the t.v any more, sadly. Thanks for the giggle :-)
That's great!! I watch her and marvel at the fact that she seemed to care not a whit about the opinion of others - just got on with it and did what she did. I'd love to be just a bit like that. I sent this on to my youngest son for his Giant Malamute, a rapidly growing and untrained puppy who will only listen to his master if HE thinks its a good idea. Trouble ahead.
Kitty, the sheer will power was impressive. Training context 2 decades ago, you don't have to agree with her to see her as an iconic personality.
Watercats,hsppy to oblige.
Deborah, I hope you are wrong about the prediction for your son. A malamute is a lot of dog. We had a friend malamute named Wookie. Even in her old age, when we met her, she was iffy with other dogs. Diva excepted, of course.
Hehe - it's been ages since I've seen Barbara Woodhouse. My sister wrote to her I think about one of her loopy labs. A real character, not like the sanitised types we get now.
If I were a tree, I would be a London Plane. I am gregarious but enjoy solitude. I am English in my heart and soul, but still have room for other nations. I have lived in six countries and picked up a French husband along the way. We have a wonderful, kind, strong-minded daughter who has become a "Human of whom to be proud". I am a magnet for the lost. I foster collies (and collie cousins and the occasional, accidental, cat or crow). Those I have saved have saved me in return. I notice the world around me and often talk to strangers. Traveling alone is interesting, liberating and fulfilling. I am good at most things that I undertake but have few formal qualifications. I am able to have and treasure friends with whom I disagree about almost everything. My life is not over. Who knows where I am headed?
A ponyism is one of Life's Truths perceived from the perspective of an Effing Pony: - Life's a Bluff! - Those who aspire to make their mark on this world must expect to scrape some skin on the walls of experience. - The greatest value of money is as the currency of Hope.
- To be an Ass or an Asset, that is the question?
-Selective memory is but the first step on the path to magical thinking.
-Not all Baggage comes with wheels. -When your hero is a horse you are less likely to be disappointed than were he a human.
-Unfortunately, great wealth does not always equate with class.
-A dick, surrounded by puppies, remains a dick. -What better antidote to evil than kittens? -Any time you have something heavy, ready to drop, your cat will sit right below and look up at you.
I always enjoyed Barbara Woodhouse. I always wanted her to teach husbands and children too.

ReplyDeleteThis video made my day...thanks~!
TechnoBabe, Oh, I suspect her husband and children would never have even thought of getting out of line.
ReplyDeleteJean, she became a cultural icon and her sayings were in use in every walk of life. (I guess my blog has gone to the dogs).

ReplyDeleteI could never warm to Barbara. I always suspected she smelled of wee. And not dog wee either (she'd never have allowed that).

Steve, patrician mature female wee?
ReplyDeleteBad Boy!
