Les Collines Enchantees - The Enchanted Hills

This is one of The Artistic One's paintings. Mother Nature is evidently voluptuous; the degree is dependent on one's mind set. Some folks see only rolling hills with a rather bold Iris in the foreground.
A new commission recently came in, from a couple who already have some of Hubby's art. They wish to have their own version of The Enchanted Hills but request that it be on a horizontal format and include their Bichon-Frise (a small white fluffy dog with very knowing eyes).....

  1. Now I know why they call them "rolling hills"... one wants to go roll in them thar hills...
    :-)

Thanks for sharing this, I've been curious to know what the artistic one's art resembles, ever since I couldn't make it down to the south of France for the display some time ago...

Hope you all had a fine 4th weekend...

  2. I love the vibrant colors! Now, does the Artist see the world this way or does his "inner vision" interpret what he sees into this vision? I've never quite had the knack myself, so I always wonder how a true artistic brain works.

Will you be able to post a pic of the commission version? Perhaps not without owners' permission, but I would love to see how the dog enters the vision.

  3. Jean, copyright always stays with the Artist. The work has just begun but I will show you where The Artistic One takes it. As to what goes on inside his head, this is as communicative as he gets!

  4. Owen, when we drive around the countryside together I know that hills, clouds, bunches of grapes all take on a life of their own, in his eyes. He usually doesn't take commissions but this couple have left him enough freedom. He will paint his own interpretation and if they don't like it they are under no obligation. Directing this one is like trying to push string.

  5. I love the painting and it's great your hubby has a new commission... but I fail to see how a white fluffy doggy is going to add anything to the atmosphere... surely it's going to look a bit out of place. Do hope your other half isn't going to pimp his artistic sensibilities!

  6. So that's what hubby's art looks like! I like the roiling/rolling contours of it, although being completely colour-blind, I imagine I'm missing a fair bit of the impact.

  7. I would like to see the horizontal version when it is completed.

  8. Argent, there was an original black and white charcoal on paper version that captured the essence, without the distractions of color. These evolutions on the idea are really fun but I liked the first one best.

TechnoBabe, I promise I will post that sometime soon.

  9. Steve, I think the request is downright kinky. These are people I do not wish to meet face to face, I would always be imagining whatever might be going on in their heads. It may be that all they see is a vibrant landscape of hills and trees, in which case it is appropriate. I have a hard enough time guessing what's going on in The Artistic One's mind. This feels like homework for extra credit, never my favorite thing.
