Boomer doesn't need me anymore.

Hubby and I headed for the coast today to meet up with Boomer and his "Forever Folks", for the first time since we handed him over in May. We both received some much-appreciated collie-hugs but it was obvious that Boomer belongs to his new family and is secure and happy with them. As with children, loving them is letting them go.

  1. Awwwww... he's such a cutie!
I do admire your ability to foster a dog and then be selfless enough to let it go to a new home. I don't think I could do that.

  2. Thank goodness it all ended well. I am so happy for Boomer and his permanent family. It is such a blessing when there is the right fit with pets and folks. Thanks for putting in the picture too, we can see them.

  4. When I had to give up my 13-yr-old Belgian he went to live with a wonderful couple who were thrilled, just imagine, to have a big, old, hairy dog. He had been so completely mine that he followed me into the bathroom, slept with me, couldn't stand to be parted etc etc.

Went back to see him about 2 months later and he barely glanced at me. He had the best life with them and they loved him from the start. Maybe they're related to you...

  5. Merry, it would be pure ego to prefer the dog be pining for me.

Steve, Thank you. Helping these animals is much higher in importance on my list of achievements for the year than anything else.

TechnoBabe, I was just the Foster Mum, Collie Rescue did a tremendous and tireless job, with interviews, home visits etc.

  6. What great news. Knowing that Boomer is loved and loves in return must be so rewarding for you. And it takes away all the ache of letting go.

Way cool!! He looks fabulous too!

  7. Ms. Pliers, It helps that there are no squirrels or lizards in his neighborhood. He's still bonkers but they love him anyway.

Deborah, I'm not saying I didn't have some self-control issues when I first saw him. That was my first collie-hug since Diva died too so it was hard to let go. it has to be about their well-being though, doesn't it?

  8. Jean, part two is Darcy, Boomer's sister. She was adopted before he was and her Human signs his emails "Howard, Slave to Darcy" so I'm sure she's O.K. There are some really great Humans in the world and I always feel lucky to meet them.

  10. Marvelous news! Boomer looks simply beautiful and so well-pampered. (And isn't that an interesting setting in the picture?)

  11. Pixie, I could visit, but I probably won't. I'm satisfied he's in good hands.

Lydia, he's a bit hairy, even for a collie. He has yeti-feet. The setting was the parking lot behind the restaurant where we lunched. Cut trees and a tent in back selling pumpkins.

  12. Boomer is gorgeous. Is his new mistress real or is that a cut-out and you are just pretending he is a happy boy?

  13. Friko, she does look a little stiff, doesn't she? Poor thing has been knocked over a couple of times by Mr. B. in his enthusiasm. She was nursing an injury and walking carefully. I guess it shows. I have to give her credit for getting back up and loving him unconditionally.

  14. What a beautiful dog. It must not have been easy to part with him but to know that he is happy must be a lot of comfort.
