Chief is safe! He's moving to his new home tomorrow. After some false hopes and rejections, Chief is no longer a throw away horse, he's headed for a reputable local riding school, who see him as a potential Western lesson horse for adults.
I'm greatly relieved, as Saturday is moving day at our barn and was to be Chief's deadline for auction. I'll even be able to check in on him from time to time.

ReplyDeleteMartin, I have been a thorn in the side of all riding establishments in this area for the last month. Trusty iPad in hand, to show photos.
DeleteDelighted that it has worked out for him...and that you can still see him.
ReplyDeleteHelen, I can let him go, knowing he'll be well cared for.
DeleteGreat news! So happy for everyone the way it worked out. He's a handsome guy I'm sure some one will fall in love with him. So glad ge gets a second chance.
ReplyDeleteGrey Horse, he'll be living with a herd, in a much better pasture than he is now and Western should suit him. He loves learning new stuff.
DeleteHe's the spitting image of the horse I had when I lived in Crested Butte. That is a great outcome.
ReplyDeleteWally, he looks like a ginormous version of my first pony. He has that pony quirkiness to him, as well. We struck up an accidental bond and I did my duty making sure he had a future. He has started me thinking about owning another horse one day...
ReplyDeleteI love stories with happy endings.
ReplyDeleteStephen, thank you. Hopefully Chief will never experience the uncertain destiny for which he was headed.
ReplyDeleteChief is a beautiful creature and I am so glad he is going to live out his life surrounded by love.
ReplyDeleteBirdie, the people who have him got one heck of a deal, $500 for a decent horse with some good basic training. Everyone wins.
DeleteChief is quite a handsome fellow and I think he will be splendid under western tack. I am so glad to hear a happy ending to this story. I was worried. Glad too that you will still be able to visit him now and then.
ReplyDeleteJean, Chief's owner, who was selling him, pretends to be a tough customer but he sold Chief for next to nothing, to ensure he ended up in a good spot. Of course, he pretended to me this morning that the sale had fallen through. I called him on it:)
ReplyDeleteWe are sentimental creatures, all of us. I am glad Chief is safe.
ReplyDeleteWould auction have meant dog food?
Friko, Chief is quirky and needs knowledgable handling. He would not have done well in the wrong hands and would almost innevitably have found his way to mistreatment then slaughter.
ReplyDeletethe new owners are very lucky . Congratulations on securing his future and I hope you can continue to see him in his new home .
ReplyDeleteS&S, Thanks. It was worth the effort, for sure.
DeleteIt's good he's going somewhere he'll be used and appreciated.
ReplyDeletePatsy, exactly right.
