Jimmy Bastard

Jimmy Bastard is from Glasgow, Scotland. He speaks, through his writing, with the same accent as my Father. Jimmy's writings are lyrical, evocative, full of life's colours and nuances. My Father took pride in being concise, never writing three words when one would do. Dad was an officer in the Merchant Navy; sailing on oil tankers in convoys during the war; torpedoed twice; a man who never learned to swim. He would tell his men: "I don't mind if you call me a bastard, but that will be Mr. Bastard, or else."
I was happy to see a new post from Jimmy Bastard this morning. Other than the fact that I enjoy both his blog and the familiar echoes that it carries to me, the last post I had read was by his wife, telling his readers that Jimmy had suffered a stroke.
The man is back. I recommend a visit.

  4. Just went and took a look, corrr, he sure can write up a storm, and ah'll bet he eats haggis and reads Robert Service... hope all is well out in Cally-forn-i-a, and that the dogs are happy too... Nat Geo has a great piece about Redwood trees this month...

  6. Owen, Haggis is probably a no-no on the prevent-a-stroke diet list. Redwoods are magnif. but the twigs get caught in collie fur and are very uncomfortable.
Argent, you're welcome. His writing is like molten lava oozing from the earth.

  7. I followed your advice, but sadly for me his way with the words did little for my delicate taste in literature. Far too Glaswegian too be of any real interest to me.

On a more serious note, thank's for the feature, and thank's for the kind words. Drop by anytime you like.

As for the haggis crack.... cheeky!

  9. Jimmy: Welcome to my world. It seems some of my clan are a visiting at your place. I am a Cameron of Lochiel on my Dad's side, married to a Frenchie who thought the most horrifying historical anecdote was that French prisoners in Edinburgh Castle were fed only bread and water. No wine? He queried. We once went to a whiskey tasting in San Francisco, at The Bubble Lounge. Promises of Haggis and other Scottish Hors d'oeuvres. There was Haggis on toast and then the chef gave up and served sushi. Good whiskeys though. Oh, I forgot, raw oysters with whiskey sauce were great.

  13. Jimmy Bastard is a false front; its a false front for a fat slag who copies bits out of books.... He should be ashamed of himself. I could do better picking stuff out of the sewer in the Vatican and posting it on the web as if it was mine. Yours sincerely, the fuckin' Pope. xx
