Enchanted Hills with Hairy Dog

As promised, here is a photo of the painting commissioned to include the Patrons' fluffy white dog in a voluptuous landscape. I have to admit that it's not as weird as I thought it would be. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt and guessing it will be a couple's private joke when friends of theirs admire the "Portrait" of the dog.

  2. It does change the character of the original concept, that's for sure.

Which, in a sense, is pretty amazing. Now the focus is on the dog, set in a field of orange flowers. I never would have expected the addition of one element like that could so alter the emotional impact of a work of art.

  3. Captain Sensible, Welcome! This painting is by my French husband, sometimes known as The Artistic One. Sometimes known as "Other" things.

Jean, The Artistic One was at a loss how to integrate the dog until we had dinner with friends who have one of the same breed. It was very present in the social group and had very wise eyes, although quite young. Inspiration licked his hand.
I agree the result is unexpected.

  4. It's... it's bizarre. Almost hynotic. I feel compelled to stare at it. But I'm not sure if it works for me. It certainly holds my attention though!

  5. Well, I know what I like. And I like this.

  6. It is always fun to get the chance to see more of The Artistic One's work. Having inspiration lick his hand was good timing. Thanks for sharing this work.

  7. TechnoBabe, the mysterious ways of the universe? I don't know if the photos of the similar dog made him relate to the real one, or the opposite.

    Martin, glad you liked it.

Steve, Well put. I keep looking, smiling and shaking my head.

  8. I agree with Steve - it's so unusual that you can't help but stare at it. Little fluffy dogs are not on my list of favourite things, normally, but in this context, this one is pretty amazing. The more I look at it, the more I like. The painting, I mean.

  9. Deborah, It will be interesting to hear back whether it's what they expected, or not.

  10. Very nice portrait of some couple's best friend. You know, Elliott Erwitt, William Wegman, and George Rodrigue of Blue Dog fame have made significant career segments out of dog portraits. Is this a segue into new realm of artistic production? I can see the show in the Louvre already!

  11. Quite the contract. I love the colors and like Deborah, little fluffy dogs not quite what have lived around my house. Enjoyed seeing it, though.

  13. The land in the landscape is positively quivering...

  14. Owen, great allusion to the quivering nose of the dog.

Jinksy, must be! The painting arrived in New York yesterday and, to paraphrase Owen, the clients are all a-quiver.

Midlife, Sometimes you just knuckle down and do what you have to do to put bread on the table.

Ms. Pliers, I think he's still more interested in voluptuous landscapes. What will we call the series, if it takes off?

Joanna, Not unlike your warm colors.
