There is, of course, a back-story, but let's just go with the smiles that puppies bring. I drove to get them out of an urgent situation and kept them for a few days until the rest of the team could set up foster homes for them.
We had our neighborhood transfixed each time we went for a walk. Four month old puppies, who had never walked on leash before, learned by following Brook and got the hang of it pretty quickly. There were some major tangles and some outbreaks of romping on various lawns. Much laughter.
I deliberately didn't name them and steadfastly resisted volunteering to foster longer. Brook goes back to her other Mom tomorrow. I have work to catch up on. I made a hair appointment for myself and I'm even going riding this weekend.
I started to write "If I see a stray dog, I'll let someone else deal with it" but that would be a lie. Fingers crossed that all dogs are safe and sound in happy homes, for at least a few days.
You know how much I like dogs... And even I can't resist the photos of the puppies splayed out all over the floor--surrounding a dick perhaps?
ReplyDeleteOh man these puppies are georgeous! How fun to have them for a few days!
ReplyDeleteI have thinking about getting a dog. (Not a Collie, they have more energy than I do.) Look at those faces! So much love to give.
ReplyDeleteMs. P. maybe a book, or two, can enlighten us?
ReplyDeleteKerry, Happiness on four legs! The mahogany sable girl reminded me of photos I have of my last dog, at that age. Great eye contact.
Birdie, Collies (Lassie Dogs) are much more low key than Border Collies, which it sounds as though you are thinking of. They also come in a short hair version. We call them Smoothies. Also, pointy-nose dogs don't drool.
What gorgeous puppies...and hoping they all find great homes soon. For now enjoy the funny antics they will do and of course more crazy walks. You were brave to walk them all together!
ReplyDeleteThose pups look good and tuckered out.
ReplyDelete*sigh* I sooo want a dog but right now it is impossible. Those photos really did not help my resolve.
ReplyDeleteBooks are some people's puppies.
ReplyDeleteEllen, these pups won't even go up on the Rescue Website. We have a list of applicants to choose from. As to the walking, I've consistently found the more often I step towards a potential problem, the quicker dogs adapt and the "problem" is quickly handled.
ReplyDeleteStephen, a tired dog, is a good dog.
Steve, can't you take on a friend's dog just for the weekend, or something?
Ms. Pliers, would that be a "Plierism"?
ReplyDeleteYou don't even wanna go to "The World According to Pliers," never mind having her -isms whirling around in your brain.
ReplyDeleteI lost the last of my lovely girls five weeks ago, she was affectionately known as Big Girl. I told everyone that I would not and could have another dog. My daughter and her partner run a doggy day care and dog walking service. Over the past week she has called me four times and sent adorable photos of doggies needing a new home... Oh giddy aunt I know that it is only a matter of time before I cave in.
ReplyDeleteSt Jude, my heart breaks for you. it took me a really long time to get my emotions under control after losing Diva. The best medicine was Abbey. I didn't choose her but she had no other options and she taught me a lot whilst I fostered her. You don't have to give your heart again right away but helping another creature temporarily will probably be a positive for you too. How could it not?
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine how those walks looked. I saw a lady with her children and only one little energetic puppy on the end of a leash the other day and that was a trip and a half. It had me laughing.
ReplyDeleteMultiply by four and perhaps 20 pounds, and I'd probably drive my car off the road in hysterical laughter.
Glad you got to enjoy them for a while. I'm not sure how long you would have held up under a longer term fostering. Joy might not have become "overjoy" but rather exhaustion.
Jean, there's often a moment of "what was I thinking?" in the cold light of day. On the flip side, there are moments when I laugh out loud. It feels good and balances out the rest.
ReplyDeleteWhat? Pointy nose dogs don't drool?? I did not know that.
DeleteKerry, that has been my unscientific observation.
ReplyDeleteThey look beautiful. I'm sure they will disappear fast
ReplyDeleteAll four puppies and me would have ended tied in a granny knot , had I attempted walking them all at once .
ReplyDeleteLuckily they're in your capable hands !
Lovely pups...I wish I could have a dog sometimes, but I had such a miserable experience having one as a kid that I'm afraid and with the three felines the flat is full...
ReplyDeleteWally, they are very well socialized, loving humans and other dogs. That's a tremendous plus.
ReplyDeleteS&S It was a form of madness to assume we'd be able to do walk en-masse, but it worked.
e, cats are good company and they don't require walks.
Love your sweet blog! I'm a new follower!
ReplyDeleteBest,
Anne ♥♥
Anne, the name of your blog is irresistible. Welcome.
ReplyDeleteOh my, 4 month old puppies on a walk? You are a good & brave woman :)
ReplyDeletePauley, we did have a grown-up dog along for them to follow. It did mean three leashes to tangle with though. It was hilarious but got better each time.
