The Indomitable Olympic Spirit

We were waiting for the olympic torch to go by in Heamoor, Penzance, Cornwall but they loaded it on to a bus so we didn't get to see it. Some of us were really dissapointed so my friend Ian Braithwaite, with cheers from the crowd, decided to do a lap of the roundabout with a newspaper as his torch. Excuse the laughing lol!
-------
Above clip was recommended to me by my sister, who was one of those waiting to see the Olympic Flame relay pass along close to her home.
Hooray for Ian Braithwaite, a local hero no one had heard of until this day. I'd be prepared to wager that he rode on a wave of free pints down at the pub that evening.
This is a Cornish Moment that reminds me of what I miss about living there.

  4. Way to go, Ian! That was really sweet. And I was thoroughly impressed that he made it all the way around the roundabout. Those Brits known how to do pomp and circumstance, don't they!

  7. Let me get this straight, you pirated this from Penzance?

  8. S&S, doesn't it make you smile?

Steve, "Olypmic Spirit" typo or Freudian slip? Works either way.

Ms Pliers, It is a long way around that roundabout. Said roundabout has other stories attached. YouTube wasn't around yet when my little sister made it all the way to the middle in her car one night.

Martin, Some people just have "naughty little boy" shining through and through.

Frances, it was all in good fun and turned a bit of a let down into a local triumph for the crowd.

Silliyak ,the local pub, where I'm sure he ended up, is called The Pirates, as is the local rugby team. Many happy Pirate memories from days of yore.

  11. Argent, there's originality, patriotism and a little bit of taking the mickey combined for some very special alchemy.

  12. I loved the laughter - and the humor of the scene. I so hope he received many a pint that night.

  13. What a shame that they didn't run the torch through. Here in NJ, I got to see the torch runners at least twice and this was on local roads, not even in main towns. It's a big deal for the public and should be shared whenever possible.

The "newspaper runner" did a credible job, regardless. His form was perfect and his endurance to be admired. He is worthy of a platform spot in London. *G* What a great sense of humor!
