Leaving, on a Jet Plane

Having to set our alarm for 3am on a Sunday morning to be on time for our early, early flight out of San Francisco, was a bit of a struggle but we made it, and the bi-coastal hop to Miami went well. A change of gates and a flight full of laughter in many languages, as we headed out towards our destination on St Maartens Island in the Caribbean.
The turquoise waters faded to black, as night fell. Puffy clouds below us floating in photo-negative contrast, with occasional jewel-light incrustaceans as we overflew inhabited atolls.
The wind was up as we decended into Dutch airspace and the small motels lining the landing strip accentuated the rocking of the plane's wings. The pilot received a well deserved round of applause once the wheels grabbed the tarmac and the warm night air welcomed us to our destination.

  1. I remember that landing in St Martin. Also going over that bridge in a car when a plane was coming in. Hope you are staying on the French side of the island. Incredible food! Good day trip to Anquilla also fun. Enjoy.

  4. Ah, bask in the sunshine and be sure to take a nice swim for me. I will be vicariously sharing your pleasure. It's below freezing here with ice and snow, so I need a nice imaginary trip to the sunny beach. Oh, and make sure you wear some nice summer clothes too and then tell us all about it in vivid detail.

Sometimes I watch golf tournaments in the winter just to pretend I'm there. This is so much better as you are there and you are a real person I sort of "know." *G*

    1. Jean, I'm so sorry about your weather. We will fly back via New York and I worry about delays and cancellations. On the way home, it maters less, thank goodness.
